PHOTOS: Thousands hit Skaha Lake for 24th Penticton Dragon Boat Festival

Public invited to come and cheer on the athletes for the event's championship races on Sunday

More than 2,000 athletes are in the South Okanagan this weekend for the 24th annual edition of the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival.

The Penticton Paddle Sports Association (PPSA) welcomed competitors of all ages to Skaha Lake, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 6), for the event.

More than 80 teams from across Western Canada hit the water on Saturday for the event.

A total of 42 races took place under hazy skies on Saturday, preceding the event's championship races on Sunday.

The public is invited to check out the action, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as teams help put a wrap on another year of the popular festival.

This weekend's event marks one of the final annual races hosted by PPSA.

Duel in the Desert, Okanagan Super Sprints, and the 100-kilometre Ultra Distance Endurance Race — from Vernon to Penticton on Okanagan Lake — also proceeded in 2025.
