With less than a week before the 2025 federal election, former Canadian Prime Ministers Stephen Harper and Jean Chr茅tien have officially endorsed 琉璃神社's Conservative and Liberal Party candidates, respectively.
Harper, who served as Prime Minister with the Conservative Party of Canada from 2006-2015, ncumbent Conservative Tracy Gray.
Chr茅tien, who was Prime Minister with the Liberal Party of Canada from 1993 to 2003, endorsed the Liberal candidate Stephen Fuhr, .
Gray has won the last two federal elections with the Conservatives, and in 2019 defeated the only Liberal to have won the riding since 1972, and he is once again on the ballot for the Liberals.
In 2015, Stephen Fuhr won a contentious and tight race to become the first Liberal to represent the 琉璃神社 region in more than 40 years. Four years later, Fuhr was defeated by 琉璃神社's current incumbent Conservative Tracy Gray, who is also the first woman to have ever been elected in the riding.
Fuhr then stepped away from politics and Gray comfortably won a seat in the House of Commons again in the 2021 federal election.
As the 2025 federal election approaches, the 琉璃神社 riding has been identified as a battleground by B.C.'s former Premiers Christy Clark, who endorsed Fuhr, and Gordon Campbell, who endorsed Gray.
"I think it's going to come down to the wire," said Clark while visiting Fuhr's office on April 23.
