Vancouver Rise FC sets new league record with undefeated streak

The Vancouver Rise FC are undefeated for its sixth match in a row, setting a new league record. 

The Rise FC defeated the Ottawa Rapid FC 3-2 on Sunday (Aug. 24) at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa.

Sunday鈥檚 win moves the Rise FC ahead of the Rapid FC into third place with 26 points in the Northern Super League. AFC Toronto is in first place with 32 points, followed by the Montreal Roses in second with 28. 

The Rise FC held possession 50 per cent of the match and took 11 shots, six of which were on goal, while the Rapids took eight shots, three of which were on goal. 

The Rise FC captain, Samantha Chang, scored the only goal of the first half at 25 minutes and the team held onto the lead in the first half. 

鈥淎fter scoring the opener, Rise FC began to dictate play. Lisa Pechersky almost made it 2-0 just before the break, making a lungbusting run forward down the left, cutting inside but having her shot deflected wide before it could cross the goal line,鈥 noted a Vancouver Rise FC news release Sunday. 

Rapid FC鈥檚 Delaney Pridham tied it up at 57 minutes. 

Rise FC鈥檚 Holly Ward scored in the 76th minute, giving Rise FC the lead. About twelve minutes later, Rapids FC's Julia Benati scored in the 88th minute to tie. 

The tie was short-lived as Chang scored in the 89th minute, giving Rise FC a one-point lead. 

The Rise FC managed to keep the lead and won the match 3-2. 

Anna Bout, who was recently signed to Rise FC, made her Northern Super League debut during Sunday鈥檚 match. The only yellow card of the match was given to Rise FC's Yuka Okamoto in the 43rd minute. 

The Rise FC will return home to Swangard Stadium on August 30, facing off against the Montreat Roses FC at 7 pm. 

Vancouver Rise are part of Canada's first professional women's soccer league, the Northern Super League. The other clubs are Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montr茅al Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC and AFC Toronto. 

The top four teams in the league will play in the semi-finals.
