The Okanagan Sun are 5-0 after a 48-7 win over the Valley Huskers on Aug. 23, 2025.

It was evident right from the opening kickoff that the Okanagan Sun were on a mission to reach the halfway point of the 2025 BCFC season undefeated.

Sixty minutes later, mission accomplished, as the Sun shucked the Huskers 48-7 in Chilliwack on Saturday, Aug. 23.

The tone was set on the first possession as QB Liam Kroeger marched 65 yards on three plays for the first of six Sun touchdowns on the evening. Kroeger found WR Vincent Choui on a 37-yard catch and run on the second play from scrimmage, then hit WR Seth Famakinde for his first TD of the season. Sun 7-0 with the game barely three minutes old.

On the next set of downs, Kroeger, with textbook precision passing, fired a 42-yard pass to WR Jasiah Haliburton, with another 15-yard strike to Famakinde, setting up the first of two touchdowns from short-yardage QB Marcus Christos. Sun 14-0 with most of the crowd still in the concession lineup.

Return specialist and WR Jordayne Falconer played a major role in the Sun’s next TD with an electrifying 102-yard return of a Husker missed field goal. RB Gerren Hardisty, with a one-yard plunge, picked up his fifth rushing TD of the season.

The Sun went into halftime with a 20-point lead, 27-7. The lone Valley Husker touchdown came late in the first quarter, set up by a rare Sun special-teams miscue on a punt return.

Husker K Carson Turner, with a heads-up play, recovered his short punt after a fortunate hometown bounce — Husker ball at midfield. QB Key’Shawn Dorsey moved the Huskers downfield, culminating in a 10-yard pass to WR Payton Lake for the Huskers’ only points of the night.

Okanagan put up 14 points in the third quarter — Christos with his second rushing touchdown of the game and seventh on the season, followed by a Kroeger-to-Choui 16-yard TD pass to make it 41-7 Sun after three quarters.

Christos took over from Kroeger in the final quarter, engineering a 32-yard touchdown pass to WR Ty Walker to close out the scoring, 48-7 Sun.

Offensively, Kroeger and the Sun enjoyed one of their finest games of the season, putting up 511 yards net offence, 395 yards passing, scoring six TDs — three through the air and three along the ground.

Kroeger finished the game 17-of-23 for 289 yards and two TDs. Christos was 6-of-9 for 106 yards and one touchdown. Sun QBs utilized 10 different receivers, with Falconer leading the way with five receptions for 85 yards, his longest of the night, 68 yards.

Receivers Choui, Famakinde and Haliburton collected three passes each for 67, 60 and 66 yards, respectively.

Defensively, the Sun shut down the Husker offence, holding them to 105 yards rushing and 150 yards passing, and contained the running of BCFC’s second-ranked rusher, RB Jawad Harb, to 37 yards on 11 carries.

The Sun’s sack parade continues with DL Jarveon Williams picking up a pair along with three tackles. DL Mitchell Hickingbottom and DB Easton Fenske each had a sack.

After almost a full month away from the Apple Bowl, the Sun return home to close out August when they host the 0-5 Kamloops Broncos, Saturday, Aug. 30, kickoff 7 p.m.

The Sun will be celebrating ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Minor Football this game, with all players wearing their respective team jerseys receiving free admission.
