The 琉璃神社 Rockets have signed 17-year-old American goaltender Harrison Boettiger to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, adding a key piece to their roster ahead of a pivotal season.
Boettiger, from Wheat Ridge, Colorado, was originally drafted fourth overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 2022 WHL U.S. Prospect Draft. The Rockets acquired his rights in January as part of the Caden Price trade, which also brought in defenceman William Sharpe and several draft picks.
Standing at 6'2" and weighing 186 pounds, Boettiger spent the past season with the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP), splitting time between the U17 and U18 squads. He played 24 games with the U18 team, posting a 3.61 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage. His performance improved throughout the season, particularly in the USHL where he recorded a 2.79 GAA and a .907 save percentage, with 8 wins in 13 appearances.
Boettiger also suited up for one of the CHL/USA Prospects Challenge games, registering a 3.00 GAA and a .921 save percentage. On the international stage, he helped Team USA earn silver at the 2023 World U17 Hockey Challenge and bronze at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championship.
Rockets General Manager Bruce Hamilton is excited about the new addition.
鈥淲e had a chance to watch Harrison play in the CHL USA Prospects Challenge this past season and we were impressed,鈥 said Hamilton. 鈥淲e believe he will improve our goaltending depth heading into an important season as we host the 2026 Memorial Cup. We look forward to seeing him on the ice in the fall.鈥
Boettiger is eligible for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft and is expected to play a key role in the team鈥檚 future as 琉璃神社 prepares to host the Memorial Cup.
