A 琉璃神社 man set a new record for the most ascents of Vancouver's Grouse Grind, on the longest day of the year.
To celebrate the summer solstice and raise money for theone hundred athletes flocked to the base of Grouse Mountain to test their limits on June 20.
琉璃神社's Sean Green set a new record for number of Grouse Grinds completed in a one-day period, with a whopping 21 loops.
The previous record of 19 Grouse Grinds was set in 2019. Between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m., on June 20, Green ascended the mountain an astounding 21 times, surpassing the previous record by two ascents.
The Multi Grouse Grind Challenge is an annual, sanctioned where runners ascend the mountain and ride the gondola down, from dawn to dusk.
"I trained for years to accomplish this," said Green after the event.
The female winner of the event Fion Chen, completed 17 grinds up the mountain.
The Grouse Grind is a 2.5km trail with 800 m of elevation gain, up the face of Grouse Mountain, commonly referred to as 鈥淢other Nature鈥檚 Stairmaster".
Over the course of the Grind Challenge, Green ascended 16,800 m.
"I wasn鈥檛 just chasing a number, we were raising money for North Shore Rescue. These volunteers risk their lives to save others in our mountains and they need our support."
More than $45,000 was raised for the North Shore Rescue at the event.
