'Incredibly proud': Penticton soccer teams to vie for B.C. titles

Girls' and boys' U14 teams heading to BC Soccer Provincial Championships

A pair of Penticton soccer teams are set to put a wrap on their landmark seasons with appearances in the upcoming B.C. provincials.

Pinnacles FC's (PFC) girls' and boys' U14 teams have both qualified for their respective end-of-season tournaments, scheduled in Kamloops from July 10 to 13.

For the girls' team, it marks the first time in eight years a PFC female club has qualified for the BC Soccer Provincial Championships.

The boys' side, meanwhile, is heading to Kamloops after going undefeated in this season's Thompson Okanagan Youth Soccer League (TOYSL).

鈥淲e鈥檙e incredibly proud of both our U14 teams,鈥 said Andrew Stevenson, PFC's newly-appointed technical director of football. 鈥淭o see our girls back at provincials after eight years, and our boys winning the league and cup, is a testament to the talent, effort, and culture we鈥檙e building."

The U14 girls' team clinched its berth at the provincials after a 2-0 victory over its counterpart from the Shuswap Youth Soccer Association.

A 3-0 semifinals win over Vernon, followed by a 5-1 rout of the Kamloops-based Soccer Quest in the finals, helped Penticton's U14 boys' team reach the B.C. championship.

It also marked the first time in eight years a PFC club has won the TOYSL title.

"These teams are an inspiration to the whole club and we are certain they'll do themselves proud at the provincials," Stevenson said.

Both teams will represent the entire South Okanagan when they vie for gold at the BC Soccer Provincial Championships.

"Pinnacles FC encourages the community to follow their journey and celebrate these remarkable accomplishments," a release from the club reads.
