A Summerland man will end 2025 in jail after he was sentenced on multiple outstanding cases.

Garret Cole Sedawie had already received a time-served sentence on July 28, over an  August 2021 assault where he used a man's walking stick to attack him, pursuing him outside to continue the attack before smashing in his victim's car windshield.

On Aug. 29, he returned to court to be sentenced for a second, separate assault that occurred in 2021 and for cases from 2023 and 2024.

The second 2021 assault, which took place in November, involved Sedawie attacking a man in the middle of a Summerland street.

That ended in a trial in 2024 with a guilty verdict, after the judge dismissed Sedawie's fanciful claims in his defence that he was nowhere near his victim, and that the victim had been so focused on glaring at him that he tripped and fell, injuring himself.

Sedawie also entered guilty pleas on Aug. 29 to the other cases, pleading guilty to flight from police, mischief $5,000 or under, and uttering threats to kill an animal or bird related to an incident that took place on Oct. 7, 2023, guilty to uttering threats and assault on Nov. 1, 2024, and guilty to driving while prohibited on April 17, 2024.

In total, between the various charges, Sedawie will spend another 162 days in jail.

At his previous sentencing in 2025, the presentence report noted that since being taken into custody, Sedawie has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is being treated with monthly injections of medication.
