Colours of Nature, an exhibit by Summerland artist Jane Blagborne opens May 1. A reception will be held May 3 from 2 to 4 p.m.

A new art exhibit is opening at the Summerland Art Gallery.

The exhibit, Colours of Nature, by Summerland artist Jane Blagborne, opens May 1 and continues until June 20.

She said her art reflects her interest in birds, animals and trees.

Blagborne, who grew up in Summerland, later left the community to pursue a career in nursing. She returned to Summerland 20 years ago.

She believes society lacks value in nature and its gifts.

鈥淚 hope in some way my artwork can stimulate our residents to stop staring at their cell phones and engage with this incredible valley we live in,鈥 she said.

A reception will be held on May 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. The gallery is in the Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre, 9525 Wharton St. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
