Some Okanagan highways are getting an upgrade this summer.
In an announcement by B.C.'s Ministry of Transportation and Transit on Friday morning (May 9), nearly 630 kilometres of highways will be seeing improvements, providing better driver surfaces for travellers.
The largest contract, coming in at $11 million is Highway 97 from Oyama to Vernon will be resurfaced, as well as nearby side roads. In total, it will be 88 kilometres resurfaced.
Okanagan Aggregates was awarded the contract and the work is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
Highway 97 in West 琉璃神社 and Highway 33 in Rutland will also be undergoing conventional asphalt resurfacing, totalling 73 kilometres.
The same is taking place on Highway 97 and side roads from Summerland to Trout Creek, an 80.5-kilometre stretch.
Highway 3 from Sunday Summit to Princeton will be resurfaced a different way, by a method called hot in-place recycling.
This year, the province has invested almost $57 million to resurface southern Interior highways and local roads, ensuring a safe and comfortable driving experience.
Drivers are reminded to slow down in construction zones and follow directions from traffic controllers.
