The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) team made a difficult recovery on Wednesday, April 23, after a mountain biker sustained injuries in the Myra Canyon trail network.
Around noon, COSAR was called in to extract the injured cyclist from the steep Myra BailOut Trail. Due to the difficult terrain and uncertainty regarding the rider's injuries, Air Rescue One was placed on standby and was ready to assist if needed.
However, COSAR volunteers were able to access the subject with a specialized wheelchair stretcher and the helicopter was stood down. After reaching the injured mountain biker, COSAR volunteers stabilized, transported, and transferred them to an ambulance.
The highly trained team of COSAR volunteers are ready to respond to help people in crisis 24/7, 365 days a year. If you or someone you know is stranded in the backcountry, call 911 and the appropriate team will be dispatched. All rescues are free of charge as COSAR firmly believes that no one should have to pay for lifesaving assistance.
