Penticton baseball team beats Delta to become 'Best of the West'

The U15 Penticton Tigers after winning the gold medal in Kamloops at the Premier Best of the West Championship.

The 15U Penticton Tigers can call themselves among Western Canada's best.

Led by manager Thurman Matthews, the club edged the Delta Blue Jays 10-6 in the gold medal game to win the Best of the West Premier Showcase Championship in Kamloops on May 4.

Penticton was among 15 teams from across B.C. and Alberta vying for gold in the 15U AAA division.

After going 1-1 in the round-robin play, the Tigers beat the Calgary Cardinals and Prep Baseball Report Canada en route to the gold medal game against Delta.

Teams from Langley, White Rock, Chilliwack, and Red Deer, Alta., were also at the tournament.

Penticton plays its regular-season home games at McNicoll Park, located at 1050 Penticton Ave.
