UPDATE: Minimal growth of wildfire near Princeton golf course

The fire sparked on Saturday afternoon and is 14 hectares in size

UPDATE: 1:40 p.m.

Overnight, crews saw minimal growth on the August Creek fire east of Princeton.

The fire remains at 14 hectares in size.

The priority is to "be actioning the north and east flanks, establishing guard and a hose lay between the fire and nearby structures," said an update from BC Wildfire Services.

The August Creek fire near the Princeton Golf Club sparked on Saturday, July 12. 

Evacuation orders have been issued for the following areas: ​

  • South of Highway 3
  • West to Amber Hill Road / Darcy Mountain Road adjacent of Sewer Treatment Plant
  • East to Willies Ranch Road
  • Includes Princeton Golf Club and Properties on Taylor Mill Drive
  • Residents on evacuation order must leave their property and report to the Princeton Emergency Support Services Reception Centre at the Princeton & District Arena at 167 Old Hedley Rd., the RDOS said. 

Meanwhile, evacuation alerts have been issued for the following areas: 

  • Properties north of Highway 3 along the Similkameen River
  • South of Princeton Cemetery Road
  • East of Copper Mountain Road
  •  West of Willie Ranch Road

Both ground and aerial resources have been distributed to combat the blaze, including 14 ground firefighters and four helicopters. 

The fire is displaying rank 2-3 behaviour, meaning a moderately vigorous surface fire with a moderate rate of spread," BCWS said in an update.
