UPDATE: Armstrong-Spallumcheen crews quick to knock down grass fire

Grass fire near Salmon River Road spread over 10,000 sq. ft

UPDATE 4 p.m.:

A fire that broke out off Salmon River Road Monday afternoon was quickly extinguished by fire fighters.

Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Department was called to the blaze around 1:30 p.m., which was in the grass on private property and spread into some timber close by.

"We got it knocked down fairly quickly once we got water on it," said fire chief Rob Brown.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

It grew to an estimated 10,000 square feet in size, which Brown said could have spread further.

"The people that owned the property were bucketing some water from the well."

The fire, south of the 2024 Hullcar Mountain wildfire, in the 4500 block of Salmon River Road, is a reminder for residents and visitors to be vigilant.

"It's getting dry for sure," said Brown. "I believe our area right now is in the high fire danger."
