One wildfire near Princeton held as reinforcements arrive on Placer Creek blaze

The August Lake fire just outside the community was deemed held on July 14

Additional reinforcements will be arriving on the Placer Creek wildfire south of Princeton on July 15 and 16 as the August Lake fire was shifted to being held.

The Placer Creek wildfire, last estimated at 2,600 hectares, continues to burn out of control. Crews took advantage of a cooler July 14 to return to direct attack on the northwest and western flanks of the fire.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, crews are continuing to work on securing those flanks by expanding a control line along existing roads to prevent the fire from growing towards Hgihway 3 and nearby communities.

Since it was first discovered, the fire has largely grown towards the east, and the fire has moved into areas that were burned during the 2021 wildfire season.

Currently there are 49 wildfire personnel on the fire, supported by four helicopters, nine pieces of heavy equipment and three water tenders.

Additional reinforcements are set to arrive over July 15 and 16.

To the north, 40 personnel were deployed to the August Lake wildfire just outside Princeton, which has been held to 14 hectares over the last few days.

A wet control line was completed around the fire on July 14, which led to it being considered held and the evacuation orders for the fire being downgraded to alerts.

Crews are still on scene extending the wet line and conducting mop-up and patrol activities.

Activity on Placer Creek is expected to pick up on July 16, as temperatures are expected to rise up to 35C with low relative humidity.

The additional reinforcements will join crews already on scene with a focus on the western and northwestern flanks of the fire.
