Oliver's hospital will see its emergency room shut down for 14 hours, starting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday (July 23).

The emergency room at South Okanagan General Hospital will reopen at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Interior Health (IH) announced.

This marks the eighth closure at Oliver's hospital since July 1, and the 15th in 2025 alone.

Patients have been asked to access emergency care at Penticton Regional Hospital during this time. All other inpatient services will continue as normal, IH said.

The emergency room has been hit with a slew of regular closures since 2023.

Although IH on Wednesday did not specify why it is closing the hospital's emergency room, the facility has had repeated issues with staffing shortages over the last two years.
