As a result of multiple, non-fatal overdoses reported in Vernon, Interior Health issued a toxic drug poisoning alert Friday, Aug. 29.

Interior Health has issued a toxic drug poisoning alert for Vernon.

The alert was issued Friday, Aug. 29, just after 2 p.m.

"Multiple non-fatal drug poisonings (overdoses) have been reported in the City of Vernon," said Interior Health.

The alert is in effect until Sept. 5.

Interior Health offered the following tips for those continuing to use drugs:

• Be a buddy - reach out for a buddy so no one uses alone;

• Carry naloxone and know how to use it;

• Find drug checking locations at ;

• Be aware of risks if mixing with other drugs, including alcohol;

• Start with a small amount, and wait before taking more;

• Space out your doses;

• Call 2-1-1 or visit to find services near you;
