It was a warm day in the South Okanagan on Sunday, July 13 as temperature records were broken in Penticton and Summerland.
In Penticton, the temperature reached 39.1 C, breaking the previous record for that date of 38.3. That record had been set in 1930.
Summerland was a little less hot, with the temperature reaching 38.3, breaking the previous record of 37.8, also set in 1930.
In both communities, records have been kept since 1907.
Elsewhere in the province, temperature records were also broken in Nelson and Trail.
Summerland and Penticton have both experienced hotter temperatures.
In Summerland, the temperature on June 30, 2021, reached 44.7, the hottest temperature ever recorded in the community. Penticton reached 44.2 on that day.
For those who do not enjoy heat, the two communities have also recorded some cool temperatures.
In Penticton, the coldest temperature on record was -27.2, set on Dec. 30, 1968. In Summerland, the coldest temperature on record was -30.0, set on Jan. 25, 1950.
