Construction could cut off water to parts of Silver Star

Vernon mountain residents may be without water Friday, July 18 and subsequent water quality advisory

A possible water outage could take place amid construction at Silver Star.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises customers supplied by the Silver Star Water Utility (SSW) that starting Friday, July 18 there might be a water outage.

Some customers on Monashee Road, Monashee Court and Attridge Lane will be placed on a water quality advisory if there is an outage as a result of the work (see map of affected area).

The advisory will be in effect until sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe.

"While water service to customers is being restored, you may experience some turbidity, which is normal. Please run a cold water tap until the water runs clear. An outdoor tap is preferred," the RDNO advises.

Planned construction work could cause water loss to customers between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and could be extended if unforeseen circumstances arise.

"It is suggested that you store a short-term water supply for cooking and toilet use before the potential interruption."

Some customers may wish to boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or brushing their teeth. The RDNO will notify customers when the advisory is rescinded.
