The Lower Young Creek wildfire was brought under control after reaching an estimated 50 hectares in size.

Ashnola Road reopened to the public on July 15 after BC Wildfire Service brought the Lower Young Creek wildfire under control.

An under-control fire is not projected to spread beyond its current boundaries.

The fire was first reported on July 11, and grew to cover an area of about 50 hectares before being held the next day.

Located at the northwest edge of the Cathedral Provincial Park, the fire led to an evacuation alert being issued for a portion of the park, including the Cathedral Lake Lodge.

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen rescinded the evacuation alert for the fire at 3:30 p.m. on July 15, after the BCWS update on the fire.

A wet line was established around the fire as well as a machine guard, with mop-up of hot spots ongoing.

According to the BCWS information page, 32 personnel were still on the ground for the fire, along with three helicopters and additional heavy equipment.

Further to the west, the Placer Creek wildfire continues to burn out of control, with machine guards and control lines being established to keep the fire from spreading towards inhabitated areas or Highway 3.
