There is a significant police presence on Sylvania Crescent in Rutland.
Neighbours tell Black Press Media that the incident began around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (July 17). Witnesses say police used two flash bangs and were firing what appeared to be bean bag or baton rounds into a home.
Several people have been arrested.
"琉璃神社 RCMP with the assistance of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) is currently executing a planned search warrant on a residence on Sylvania Road," Cpl. Allison Konsmo, Media Relations officer, confirmed in an email.
Sylvania Crescent is currently closed at Nickel Road.
This home has been targeted by RCMP in the past. In October 2021, police raided the residence as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
Two men and a woman were arrested back on Oct. 15, 2020, for outstanding arrest warrants for other matters. Two other adults were arrested and subsequently released.
At the time Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy stated police seized quantities of suspected illicit drugs from inside the residence.
Earlier in the day, the West 琉璃神社 Targeted Enforcement Unit with the assistance of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant on a home in Peachland. There was a crash on Highway 97 around the same time as the incident, however, it is not known if the two are related.
There is currently no other details available at this time.
