Four local personalities were put βin jailβ for a good cause on Friday morning.
On Mar. 22 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Central Okanagan Crimestoppers hosted their second annual Make Bail event, to raise money to help pay for local anonymous tip rewards and program awareness.
βWe arrest certain people and ask them to phone family friends and businesses around town and see if youβll put up some money to bail them out of jail,β explained Crimestoppers Coordinator Glynton Brittain.
This year, four people were βheld in custodyβ inside the main board room at Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO): president of Crimestoppers Society Aaron Gretchen, Abby Fraser from Paladin Security, Toby Tannis from Beach Radio, and Tanvir Toor of Fetch Panda.
βThis is a way the board can raise money to payout rewards if we get tips that lead to an arrest,β said Brittain. βIt also allows us to go out into the community and let people know that we are here to help keep the community safe.β
In the inaugural event, $11,000 was raised. On Friday morning, they had $6,000 and counting.
βWe didnβt necessarily have a goal, we hoped weβd reach over $5,000, and weβve already done that,β added Brittain. βWe have less people than last year. Next year, weβre aiming to go bigger and turn it into a real jail cell. Anything helps.β
