Countdown begins to Powwow Between the Lakes start in Penticton

The three day event starts at 7 p.m. on July 18

The Powwow Between the Lakes returns to the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) for three days starting July 18 as it marks a decade since its rebirth.

This will be the second year the event will be held at the SOEC, after years of being hosted on the grounds of the Outma Sqilx鈥檞 Cultural School on SnPink鈥檛n (Penticton) Indian Band land.

The Four Seasons Cultural Society has organized the event since its return in 2015, and the 2025 event marks a decade since it was restarted.

The Powwow brings together members of all of the Okanagan Nation Alliance bands and First Nations from across the continent to share drumming, dancing and singing.

Grand entry on July 18 begins at 7 p.m. with the dances and drumming to follow, and July 19 grand entry is at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

On Sunday, at 11 a.m. before the noon grand entry, there will be a ceremony honouring the late Elder Grace Greyeyes, who led the prayers at the past Powwow Between the Lakes, among the many she shared with the community over the years.

In addition to the traditional tiny tot and chicken special dances, the Powwow Between the Lakes is bringing back the two-spirited special dance and the overdose awareness special dance.

Tickets are available for a single day or for a weekend pass from or in person at the Valley First Box Office at the SOEC.
