Wind warning forecast for South Okanagan

Winds could gust between 70 and 80 km/hour in the region

A wind warning is being issued for the South Okanagan from Penticton to Osoyoos. 

Environment Canada is warning that strong winds are forecast for Monday afternoon, which could gust between 70 and 80 km/hour. 

These strong winds will gradually ease later in the day.

There is also a wind warning for the Fraser Canyon area west of Highways 5 and 3.

Currently, there are in an area that is between the two regions where the wind warnings are forecast.

As of July 14, the Placer Creek fire, south of Princeton and west of Cathedral Provincial Park, has reached 1,000 hectares and is burning into the area of the 2021 blaze, according to the Lower Similkameen Indian Band. 

According to the BC Wildfire Service, due to a passing cold front, winds with gusts of up to 40 to 60 km/h are expected during the day which could increase fire activity.
