A South Surrey netminder has signed a three-year deal with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning after being named WHL Playoff MVP.
Harrison Meneghin, a goalie and Lightning prospect who helped lead his western Hockey League Medicine Hat Tigers to their sixth WHL championship in franchise history, signed a three-year, entry level contract with Tampa Bay Lightning Monday (May 19).
Meneghin, who suddenly lost his father on the last day of the WHL regular season, was a standout in WHL playoffs, going 14-1 with three shutouts, a 2.32 goals-against average, and a 0.907 save percentage through 16 games.
Selected by the Lightning in the seventh round (206th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft, the 6-foot-4, 174-pound puckstopper's tireless efforts helped the Tigers claim the WHL championship. Tampa Bay Lightning posted about the signing on X on Monday.
He is the third player and goaltender in Medicine Hat Tigers history to be named WHL Playoff MVP, following in the footsteps of fellow netminders Kevin Nastiuk (2004) and Matt Keetley (2007).
Peace Arch News has reached out to Meneghin for comment.
