Rhythm by Nature brings a unique music workshop to Vernon July 16.

Community members are invited to set their inner rhythm free with an upcoming drumming experience.

After a sold-out workshop last year, Rhythm By Nature is back at the Elks Lodge for the Vernon Community Drumming Experience July 16.

"I was amazed at the enthusiasm for this type of event in Vernon and I have been so excited to return ever since," said facilitator Patrick Carrick.

No drumming experience is need and all the instruments are provided as participants learn about and experiment with different drums and drumming techniques from all around the world.

"People new to this type of activity are not only welcome, they are encouraged to attend," said Carrick. "Those with prior experience are invited to support new people during the event so that everyone feels empowered with their abilities with a powerful sense of connection by the end."

Integrative Community Drum Circle (ICDC) has a number of benefits including reducing stress and connecting with your body and others.

"When some people hear about group drumming or a 'drum circle,' they can often associate it with a kind of 'hippy dippy' event or maybe an Indigenous ceremony. I held these associations myself once upon a time," said Carrick.

"One challenge has been shifting the perception that drumming is just for musicians. Drumming and music is for everyone. Educating people about the accessibility and benefits of group drumming has been key."

While steered toward adults, the event is family-friendly. To sign up visit
