After rising to fame on CTV鈥檚 The Launch, Sarah Botelho, better known as Poesy is going to embark on her first tour as a featured guest on Matthew Good鈥檚 Solo Acoustic tour.
Her moniker was inspired by the desire to create something new for herself and her music. An English and creative writing major at Western University, she plucked her name from The Defence of Poesy, by Sir Philip Sidney, a work originally published in 1595.
鈥淚t (her poetry and degree) really helps me. I think really lyrically and the lyrics are really important to me. I write all the lyrics to my songs and all the things I read in school inspired me to to look into unconventional ideas,鈥� said Botelho.
The 24-year-old musician finds inspiration not only from her studies, but from the books and personal essays she writes and the human experience.

鈥淲hen I started writing, I was writing for myself鈥� it was how I processed things and now I write for myself to come to a conclusion but it鈥檚 not just about me. You have to write other songs and allow people to use their own emotions so they can process things that they haven鈥檛 before,鈥� she said.

The Toronto based musician has recently joined forces with award-winning producer Gavin Brown who has worked with Metric, Three Days Grace, Billy Talent in the past, to build on her sound and vision.
鈥淪omeone who worked and made these great songs come to life is now doing the same thing with me. It鈥檚 a nice challenge as well. I am only 24 and I have had to be in the room with big people and hold my own and realize I鈥檓 in the driver seat of my career and navigate the business side of it,鈥� said Botelho.
Now on her first tour Botelho will be taking things down a notch from her rock sound, transferring her songs and her voice to an acoustic feel where the audience can get to know her a little better when she opens up for Good.
鈥淧laying acoustic is not something I have done since I was a teenager,鈥� she said. 鈥淢y sound is loud and rock. It鈥檚 been interesting to find a place for these songs in a new stripped back way. It鈥檚 a nice intro if I play a song at its core. If I play it (acoustically) and still like it, then it鈥檚 going to be a good song.鈥�
