Calling all the strange and unusual filmmakers.
WeirdFest, a film festival dedicated to promoting unusual films, continues on its second year of carnage against traditional filmmaking.
The event, which comes to Vernon next month, is dedicated to filmmakers who produce offbeat films that typically fly under the radar of the mainstream film industry.
Local films will get special treatment, but the festival is open to filmmakers worldwide.
Strange, weird films are often categorized as experimental or underground films. If they enjoy a large, dedicated following, they are classified as cult films. Unusual films often deal with taboo subjects like mental illness, disturbing events, or drug use, often in a lighthearted, quirky manner.
"Creators of underground cinema can endure a lot of bigotry and prejudice from people who are intolerant of those with the courage to march to the beat of a different drum," said Michael Fullerton, WeirdFest coordinator.
"WeirdFest was created to support these filmmakers rather than suppress them."
Interested filmmakers can submit their unusual films now and up to the deadline of Sunday, Aug. 31 at or directly on the FilmFreeway site.
Films selected for the festival will be decided by Sept. 15 before they are shown on Sept. 27 at the People Place in Vernon. Tickets to the festival are available .
