Halloween could be coming early in Penticton.

The Snakebite Film Festival is bringing "BITE NIGHT," a horror filmmaking competition, to Penticton from Aug. 15 to 22.

Hosted in partnership with Tempest Theatre, participating teams will have seven days to craft a "terrifying" short film (between two to 10 minutes).

Filmmakers can only begin on their pieces after receiving a prompt reveal on Aug. 15, at 8 p.m.

"BITE NIGHT is all about raw creativity under pressure," said festival organizer Carl Meadows. "We want filmmakers to embrace the chaos, think outside the box, and deliver something truly unforgettable. The best ideas often come from the panic of a short timeline, and this competition is the perfect playground for that."

A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the winning team following an audience choice vote. Additional awards will be handed out during the screening event at Tempest Theatre, organizers added.

Registrants must be 19 years or older and sign up before Aug. 1. The fee to register is $75.

Teams can register at . Tickets to attend the live screening are also available now at  or the South Okanagan Events Centre box office.

"The best ideas often come from the panic of a short timeline, and this competition is the perfect playground for that," Meadows said.

Tempest Theatre, where the films will be shown, is located at 125 Eckhardt Ave. East in Penticton.
