The YMCA of Southern Interior BC has selected June 1 for their largest fundraiser of the year.

On Sunday, the organization will host its 18th annual Cycle for Strong Kids to raise money for low-income children and at-risk youth in the community.

"Our charity relies heavily on this fundraiser to ensure that YMCA Child and Youth Development programs remain free to our most vulnerable neighbours,鈥 said Tammie Watson, YMCA of Southern Interior BC VP of Philanthropy. 鈥淏y focusing on early intervention and preventive initiatives, the Y鈥檚 programs are effectively breaking cycles of despair and creating a stronger, healthier, and more resilient community."

With the event continuing to grow throughout the years, the YMCA states this year's event will be bigger as it will feature four themed outdoor cycle classes and have both adult's and children's bikes available so the whole family can partake in the event. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers as well as best spirit, enthusiasm, and creativity.

The kids and family zone is also expanded this year, featuring bouncy castles, street hockey, face painting, a photobooth, carnival games, and more. Food and drinks will also be available and 琉璃神社 High Performance is going to have a Wellness Zone.

Local philanthropist and mental health advocate Tom Budd will be part of this year's event.

鈥淭he Y is making a massive impact in the lives of local children and youth,鈥 said Budd. 鈥淎s many know, empowering our youth and supporting their well-being, is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Together, we can uplift future generations, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be healthy and strong.鈥

The event is taking place at Stuart Park in downtown 琉璃神社 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
