PHOTOS: Happy birthday, Canada, from Armstrong and Spallumcheen

Hundreds endure the blazing heat to wish the country a happy 158th birthday in Memorial Park

It was a sea of red and white in Armstrong Tuesday, July 1.

Hundreds made their way throughout the day to Memorial Park to celebrate Canada Day, and wish the country a happy 158th birthday.

Volunteers and attendees were decked out in red and white Canada garb, including the very important hats to keep cool under 30-plus degree temperatures and the blazing sun. The heat also resulted in a lot of red faces, trying to beat the heat.

There was ice cream, cake, water, frozen flavoured ice treats, and the Memorial Park pool was full throughout the day, with everyone trying their best to stay cool.

One of the day's highlights was the announcement of Armstrong-Spallumcheen's Citizen of the Year for 2025, retired educator and longtime volunteer Jim Martin.

Another highlight was a picture sent to the City of Armstrong from its sister city in Rathfriland, Northern Ireland, that showed the Canadian flag being flown outside the town's Community Hub, and right beside a direction sign pointing to Armstrong, a mere 4,256 miles away.
