Two South Surrey bald eagles are proud parents once again.
The pair, who live in the 24/7 on Hancock Wildlife Foundation's website, have been busy after two eaglets successfully hatched, or , one on Tuesday (April 24) and one on Saturday morning (April 26).
Now the fuzzy, wobbly babies can be spotted in between feedings and visits from both parents in their nest, located near 171 Street and 2 Avenue. The nest has been home to female Brit (for British Columbia) and male Rey (for the 'rey' in Surrey Reserve) since 2022. They raised two chicks in 2023, though only one fledged successfully.
Signs of the eggs — both laid in March — hatching were first spotted Wednesday (April 23), when a pip was spotted by a nest viewer.
It takes four days for the eaglets to hatch, and after that, both parents take turns feeding and taking care of the eaglets for the next 83 to 84 days, until they're ready to fledge, or take flight and leave the nest.
Sur and Rey successfully hatched and fledged another eaglet, Kova, in 2024.
