While a four-game loss to the Grand Forks Border Bruins wasn't the outcome the Revelstoke Grizzlies were vying for, one of their players getting league-wide recognition for his critical goal-scoring has offered another reason to celebrate.
Grizzlies forward Connor Shymoniak, 18 years old and originally from St. Albert, Alta., earned the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL)'s Young Guns shoutout Thursday, April 10.
The accolade comes namely for the two goals Shymoniak scored in three games against the 100 Mile House Wranglers during the Okanagan Conference Finals, one of which was a winner.
These goals were instrumental for the Grizzlies' series victory that advanced them to the KIJHL championship finals with Grand Forks.
鈥淔or him to find success in our last series (against 100 Mile House), I think bodes well to the amount of work Connor has put in over the season," Grizzlies general managed Ryan Parent told the KIJHL. "He put himself in good spots to score.鈥
Shymoniak registered 10 goals and 16 assists across 42 regular season games, as well as three goals and four assists over 18 KIJHL Teck Cup playoff matches, averaging 0.62 points per game.
Parent added that Shymoniak worked hard all season on his two-way game.
鈥淗e's really putting his game together at the right time," Parent said. "I think he鈥檚 playing with a lot of confidence.鈥
