An Irish soccer star who played for his country at the World Cup and has more than 400 English Premier League games under his belt is bringing his very own summer camp to Penticton.
The Steve Staunton Summer Camp, named after the former Liverpool FC and Aston Villa defender, runs from July 7 to 10 at King's Park.
Boys and girls aged seven to 16 are welcome to register for the event, which will feature morning skills sessions and afternoon games.
"I'm really looking forward to it and I'm hoping to going to be a great few days," Staunton said.
Pinnacles FC, the Penticton-based club hosting the event, described the camp as "a unique opportunity for young players to develop their skills with world-class coaching."
Staunton racked up more than 100 international appearances for the Republic of Ireland, including at World Cup tournaments in 1994 and 2002. He served as the team's captain at the 2002 edition of the event, where he led his country to the knock-out stages.
The defender also went on to become Ireland's national team coach, starting in 2006.
