Fast times and fun shines at 琉璃神社's 10th annual Hungry Hungry Half Marathon

The 10th annual Hungry Hungry Half Marathon took over 琉璃神社 on Saturday morning, May 31.

An annual race for a good cause took place in 琉璃神社 on Saturday, May 31.

The 10th annual Hungry Hungry Half Marathon began at 7:15 a.m., with participants running in either half marathon (21km), 10 km, five km, or one km race.

Westwold's Martin Kratky took home gold in the half marathon, finishing with a time of 1:23:43. 

琉璃神社's Raphael Bouttelet Munari Medeir and Luke Melosso finished in second and third with a difference of one second between their times (1:31:09 - 1:31:10).

In total, 131 runners competed in the half marathon.

In the 10 km race, Alex Fedyk of 琉璃神社 was first with a time of 39:56, followed by Calgary's Tom Jamieson (42:46) and East Kootenay's Sean Metcalfe (43:15).

琉璃神社 swept the podium in the five kilometre run with Jean Carlo Betancourt Reza (18:52), Dustin Quigley (19:10), and Artem Tsapov (19:40).

This year, the event had a new title sponsor - Valley First. Money raised from the race went Valley First's Feed the Valley initiative, which works closely with the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
