The mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina is sporting an Abbotsford Canucks jersey this week after losing a challenge to Abbotsford Mayor Ross Siemens.
The Canucks won the American Hockey League鈥檚 Calder Cup after defeating the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 on Monday (June 24) to clinch the best-of-seven series.
Siemens posted a challenge to Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles on June 8 that, following the finals, the mayor of the losing team would wear the winning team鈥檚 jersey and post a congratulatory photo on social media.
Lyles honoured the bet on Wednesday (June 25).
鈥淎 deal is a deal 鈥 congratulations to the @abbycanucks on winning the #CalderCup!鈥 she posted with a photo of herself wearing the team鈥檚 jersey.
Her post also congratulated the Charlotte Checkers for 鈥渁 fantastic season.鈥
鈥淎lready looking forward to next year,鈥 Lyles posted.
Meanwhile, Siemens鈥 social media response to the challenge shows him writing a letter to Lyles.
鈥淭hanks for accepting the challenge. We can鈥檛 wait to see you in blue and green. Go Canucks Go,鈥 the letter states.
Siemens is then shown packing up an Abbotsford Canucks jersey to send to the Charlotte mayor.
鈥淎 great jersey 鈥 and the next time I see it she鈥檒l be wearing it nice and proud,鈥 he says.
He then tosses the sealed box to the camera and states, 鈥淥ff to you, Mayor Lyles!鈥
