Andrew Cristall and the Spokane Chiefs are off to the Western Hockey League (WHL) finals.
The former 琉璃神社 Rocket scored twice and added an assist on Thursday, May 1 to help Spokane advance to their first WHL championship series since 2008, the same year they won the Memorial Cup.
Spokane swept the Portland Winterhawks, finishing the series off with a 6-4 win. They are set to take on the Medicine Hat Tigers in the best-of-seven finals, starting on Friday, May 9 in Medicine Hat.
Before Thursday's game, Cristall was named the WHL's Player of the Month for April after collecting 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists) in 11 playoff games. It was the second time this season he was awarded the monthly honour (November with the Rockets). He's also won the player of the week four times this year.
With the three-point night, the Washington Capitals prospect has 37 points this postseason, which is tied for the most since 2018 when Brad Morrison had 37 points for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The WHL record for most points in a postseason is held by Regina Pats' Dale Derkatch, who had 53 points in 23 games in 1984.
Additionally, Medicine Hat's star player and projected top prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft Gavin McKenna also has 37 points in the playoffs. He is currently on a 53-game point streak where he has 135 points in that span.
Medicine Hat's roster also features former Rockets Marcus Pacheco and Ethan Neutens as well as 琉璃神社's Ryder Ritchie and Osoyoos' Liam Ruck.
Both Cristall and McKenna are nominated for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy for WHL Player of the Year, was named to the 2024-25 WHL Western Conference First All-Star Team member, and won the Bob Clarke Trophy as the regular season鈥檚 top scorer with 132 points (48G, 84A) with the Chiefs and the Rockets.
Cristall has 157 goals and 255 assists for 412 points in 248 regular-season games, making him the first WHL player in the 21st century to hit the 400-point mark.
He was drafted by the Rockets in the first round of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft and was traded to Spokane in January. Cristall was selected by the Washington Capitals with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
The WHL championship series starts on Friday, May 9.
