Penticton motel gets makeover, pet friendly rooms and familiar new owner

It's a change of pace from seeing other motels in the city demolished in recent years

The former Super 8 on Skaha Lake Road has been renovated and a new brand: the hotel is now a Coast in Penticton.

The former Super 8 motel on Skaha Lake Road in Penticton had a makeover, and has now reopened as a Coast Hotel.

The changeover is the latest development for Ron Mundi of Mundi Hotel Enterprises, who brought a brand new Coast Hotel to Oliver in 2018. He also opened the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriot in Penticton in 2020, followed by the Four Points by Sheraton in 2023.

A May 20 press release stated the rebranded and renovated Coast hotel officially opened on May 14, and contains 46 pet-friendly rooms.

Renovations of a motel that don't see it torn down and replaced is uncommon in recent years.

The Ogopogo Motel on Riverside Drive was demolished and is in the process of being replaced by the Sokana development, which allow for opt-in strata hotel units once completed.

Another block of former motels-turned low-income housing located down Skaha Lake Road is set to be demolished in the coming year to be rebuilt as an affordable housing project by BC Housing.
