Memorial to honour Salmon Arm man for role in building sports facility

Council supports plaque placement at Little Mountain Field House

A memorial will be placed at Salmon Arm's Little Mountain Fieldhouse honouring a former resident who had a hand in the building's construction.

At its July 28 meeting, city council approved the placement of a public appreciation plaque inside the facility in memory of Glenn Hill. According to the Shuswap Recreation Society, which recommended the placement, Hill "played a crucial role in raising funds and sourcing materials that contributed significantly to the construction of the Little Mountain Field House."

Coun. Debbie Cannon said she attended Hill's memorial service and found it "really interesting because I think a lot of people from the community didn’t realize how much he put into that facility."

"He had endless amounts of time that he put into it and got a lot of stuff donated so that project could happen," said Cannon. "So I think putting the plaque there would be really good…"

Hill passed away in April at age 69. In addition to his work on the Little Mountain Field House, He was involved in minor football and hockey, and also served the community through Rotary and on the SASCU board. He was a professional forester for most of his career.
