Pentiction & District Search & Rescue assisted in rescuing an injured ATV rider near Summerland.

Multiple rescue teams and personnel were deployed to west of Summerland following a serious ATV incident.

RCMP requested Pentiction & District Search & Rescue's (PENSAR) assistance in extracting an injured rider from the Fish Lake Road area during the evening of May 18. Due to the extent of the injuries, PENSAR deployed both a Class D Fixed Line (CDFL), a rescue used by helicopters, team and ground crews, while BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and Summerland Fire personnel accessed and stabilized the subject until the helicopter long team arrived.

An acquaintance on the scene offered assistance by relaying the injuries and location to emergency services via cell phone, and the transfer to the BCEHS ambulance was successful.

"PENSAR would like to recognize Summerland Fire and BCEHS personnel for making their location easily seen from the air and for the collaborative effort from these agencies, along with Penticton Summerland RCMP, in getting the injured party to medical care," PENSAR stated. "We thank the cooperative friends of the injured party for their role in supporting a safe and successful extraction.

PENSAR also added that although emergency services are on standby to help 24 hours a day, they would like to remind the public that reaching and extracting injured individuals in difficult and remote terrain can take time.
