A driver avoiding eye contact in a vehicle registered to a dead woman piqued police suspicions in Salmon Arm.

While on patrol at 11 Avenue NE at 5:45 p.m. on July 27, Salmon Arm RCMP noted a green Honda vehicle, with the driver appearing to avoid eye contact with police. The officer ran the licence plate, which showed it was registered to a "deceased female."

"Police stopped the vehicle and while speaking with the 35-year-old female driver, observed she would turn away from police while speaking," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release. "The officer noticed a scent of alcohol coming from the driver, who admitted to consuming alcohol about one hour earlier."

A breath demand was conducted and the woman blew a fail twice. The vehicle was impounded for the mandatory 30 days, and the woman prohibited from driving for 90 days, with the matter referred to RoadSafetyBC.
