UPDATE: Falkland crash spills fuel on Highway 97

A semi truck jack-knifed on Highway 97 Aug. 4 closed the route west of Falkland.

UPDATE Aug. 6:

A semi-truck hauling fuel that jackknifed west of Falkland Monday spilled onto Highway 97.

The truck was travelling westbound when it struck a concrete barrier near the Holmes Bridge at Salmon River around 5:40 p.m.

"Approximately 100-150L of fuel was estimated to have spilled as a result of the collision and Highway 97 was closed for several hours until the vehicle was recovered and necessary environmental steps taken to deal with the spilled fuel," said Const. Chris Terleski, Vernon North Okanagan media relations officer. 

No injuries were reported in the collision.

ORIGINAL Aug. 4:

A crash closed Highway 97 west of Falkland for about an hour.

DriveBC reported the closure shortly before 8 p.m. and it was cleared around 9.

Witness reports say a semi truck jack knifed at Holmes Bridge where the railroad tracks cross Salmon River.
