As the risk of wildfire increases with rising seasonal temperatures, the 琉璃神社 Fire Department reminds residents and visitors to be careful.

Campfires and outdoor wood-burning appliances, including wood-fueled fire pits, are not permitted within city limits, including on private property.

The fire department adds people also need to be aware of potential wildfire hazards including carelessly discarded cigarettes, hot machinery, and reflections from glass and mirrors.

鈥淟ong stretches of hot weather can create very dry conditions that make fire danger a reality in our community,鈥 says Paul Johnson, fire prevention officer.

He adds that certified propane and natural gas campfire appliances and fire tables are permitted, and certified propane gas barbecues are allowed on city beaches.

Charcoal briquette barbecues, food smokers and smoking are banned in city and regional parks and beaches.

With the recent fire on Knox Mountain, Johnson says it鈥檚 important that residents and businesses follow steps for emergency preparedness.
