Staff at a Salmon Arm business restrained an uncooperative alleged shoplifter until police arrived.

An employee of the 10th Avenue SW business contacted police about the matter at 5:45 p.m. on April 3. Responding officers took custody of a 27-year-old man, later learning he was from Vernon and had multiple active warrants for his arrest.

"Staff advised police the man attempted to steal over $2,000 in products," said Const. Andrew Hodges, the Salmon Arm RCMP's media relations officer, in a news release. "The man was arrested for theft, and subsequently held in custody for a bail hearing to appear before a judge to speak to the warrants."

The matter remains under investigation with charges expected to be recommended to BC Prosecution.
