Salmon Arm RCMP pulled over a Chevrolet Impala after its driver, an 87-year-old man, failed to stop at a stop sign on July 8, 2025.

An 87-year-old man is without wheels after being caught driving through stop signs while under the influence.

While on patrol at 9 p.m. on July 8, Salmon Arm RCMP witnessed a Chevrolet Impala fail to stop at a stop sign. Police followed the vehicle and watched as it failed to properly stop at the next intersection.

After pulling the vehicle over, police could smell alcohol coming off the 87-year-old driver, who also had bloodshot eyes, said RCMP media relations officer Const. Andrew Hodges, noting the driver "admitted to consuming one beer with dinner."

A breath demand resulted in two fails. As a result, the Impala was impounded for 30 days, and the man was prohibited from driving for 90 days.

Hodges said the matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.
