UPDATE: Wildfire off Highway 5A north of Princeton held at 1.2 hectares

There is a special weather statement in effect for the region

UPDATE: 6:35 p.m.

The Otter Creek wildfire off Highway 5A between Merritt and Princeton is now considered held. 

A held fire is still active, but not projected to grow beyond its boundaries under current conditions. 

The human-caused fire is an estimated 1.2 hectares in size. 



UPDATE: 4:07 p.m.

The Otter Creek fire off of Highway 5A near Coalmont Road is now an estimate 1.2 hectares in size.

BC Wildfire is on scene as well as responding with air support.

The blaze is now suspected human caused. 


UPDATE: 3:45 p.m.

The Otter Creek wildfire has now grown to an estimated .5 hectares after it was spotted Wednesday afternoon. 


A .1-hectare wildfire sparked off Coalmont Road near the Merritt-Princeton Highway on Wednesday afternoon. 

The blaze is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter. 

BC Wildfire is referring to the location of the blaze as Otter Creek. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

There is a special weather statement in effect from Hope into the Okanagan and up into the Thompson Nicola. 

Environment Canada is forecasting winds of 70 km/hr from early evening until midnight.
