Update (10 a.m.)

Pelmewash Parkway has reopened to thru traffic in both directions following an early morning fire in Lake Country.

The Lake Country Fire Department says it will remain on scene Saturday with RCMP to support residents impacted by the blaze which took place at the A side of the Wood Lake Terrace RV and Campground.

Some Lake Country residents had an early morning wake-up call on Saturday (May 3) as a fire broke out at the A side of the Wood Lake Terrace RV and Campground.

Lake Country deputy fire chief Glen Gregory confirmed to Black Press Media that two trailers and a shed were destroyed in the blaze. One of the RVs was occupied while the other was vacant. Gregory confirmed no one or animals was injured.

"One of the trailers had started on fire, the owner heard a pop from what we understand, woke up, saw flames in the slide-out area of his trailer and from there called 911," said Gregory. "Because of the close proximity of the RV park, a second trailer got involved and a shed."

Some trees in the area also caught on fire. Additionally, Gregory said "there were a couple of explosions" which the Lake Country Fire Department is presuming were propane tanks.

"Our concern was the fire spreading to other units so exposure control was our primary control going to a defensive attack," added Gregory.

Water supply was the biggest challenge for the fire department during the blaze. Fire crews had to use approximately 2,000 feet of large-diameter hose.

The cause of the blaze is "too early to tell" said Gregory. The LCFD will be investigating throughout the day. They were called to the scene around 4:40 a.m.

Pelmewash Parkway is expected to be closed until the late morning while the fire department demobilizes.
