Following the exhaustive work of coordinating the fight against the McDougall Creek wildfire, West 琉璃神社 Fire Chief Jason Brolund found himself addressing the United Nations.
Brolund was in New York City on Sep. 20.
The chief told world representatives about the 36-hour battle to keep the flames out of the city.
鈥淚t was 36 hours that felt like 100 years,鈥 Brolund said.
He also quoted Lake Country Fire Chief Darren Lee who said during this fire that 鈥渇irefighters have been warriors for thousands of years, stepping up to protect their villages.鈥
Brolund told UN representatives that money used in firefighting efforts is being spent 鈥渙n the wrong end of the problem.鈥
鈥淲hat could we have accomplished if we used that same amount of money proactively?鈥
