Upgrades are underway to the Rutland Transit Exchange located between Asher and Roxby roads.
The project is part of a broader effort to improve public transit across the city. The upgrades will make it easier for people to get around鈥攚hether they鈥檙e hopping on a bus, biking to work, or walking through the area.
The new exchange will include two concrete bus bays, a park-and-ride area, and bike parking. There will also be new sidewalks, crosswalks, and signage. Street lighting and underground utilities are being updated as well. A washroom facility for transit operators is being added, and 14 new trees will be planted.
Construction impacts are to be expected. Commuters and residents are asked to follow instructions of safety personnel, and construction signage.
The upgrade is part of the 琉璃神社 Exchanges Project, a partnership between BC Transit and the city. Other exchanges receiving upgrades are the Okanagan College Transit Exchange and the Mission Recreation Transit Exchange.
The projects received $9.2 million with funding from the federal, and provincial governments, and the city.
