琉璃神社 Gospel Mission Strides Event unites community for a cause

Lace up your shoes and get ready to make a difference as 琉璃神社 Gospel Mission鈥檚 (KGM) Strides Event is back for its 14th year.

The annual walk/run fundraiser is on Saturday, May 10. Participants can choose from a two or five kilometre walk, or take on a five or 10km run to help support 琉璃神社鈥檚 unhoused community. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., with the walk/run beginning at 10:00 a.m.

鈥淏y joining Strides, you鈥檙e not just participating in a walk or run you鈥檙e standing up to protect and support some of 琉璃神社鈥檚 most vulnerable neighbours when they need it most,鈥 said the 琉璃神社 Gospel Mission in a release.

As summer approaches, extreme heat, dehydration, sunstroke, and a lack of safe, shaded spaces pose serious risks for those without shelter.

Funds raised through Strides go toward shelter, medical care, clean water, and outreach programs.

鈥淚 love Strides because it brings our entire community together as we walk/run in solidarity with and for our unhoused neighbours,鈥 said Troy McKnight, director of resource development at KGM. 鈥淔rom avid runners to walkers, to families with small children, to seniors, everyone is welcome, and everyone can make a difference."
